Step 1
We list the given values so we can substitute them into the expression
x = -2 y = 1 z = 3
Step 2
We work out the first term using the order of operations
x^2 y z = (-2)^2 \times 1 \times 3 = 4 \times 3 = 12
Step 3
We work out the second term using the order of operations
x y z^2 = (-2) \times 1 \times 3^2 = (-2) \times 9 = -18
Step 4
We subtract the second term from the first to evaluate the whole expression
x^2 y z - x y z^2 = 12 - (-18) = 30
